A pond of water, a pond of silver, an inch of reeds, an inch of gold. This refers to the painting of reeds in Baiyangdian Lake.
Reed painting originated from the Tang and Song dynasties, and was derived from one of the reed mats in Baiyangdian. It is made from the leaves, stems, and flower heads of reeds, and is meticulously crafted through more than ten processes including cutting, ironing, pasting, and moistening by artists. The natural color of the picture is elegant and simple, with a strong water town characteristic, giving people a return to simplicity and artistic enjoyment.
