Yuxian Paper-Cut, originated in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), is a traditional folk craft in Yuxian County, Hebei Province. Toward the end of the Qing Dynasty (1636-1912), the way of Yuxian paper cutting changed from cutting by scissors to carving by knife. Up to the beginning of the 20th century, a unique artistic style in composition, molding and color dyeing began to take shape, evolving into a new school of folk paper cutting. In 2006, the craft, including all the major processes such as design drawing, binding, airtightness, carving and dyeing, was inscribed into the first list of National Intangible Cultural Heritage. This episode“How to make Yuxian Paper Cutting”is designed to help you find out through personal experience the beauty of Yuxian Paper-cut.
