Farmers in Neiqiu county of Xingtai, Hebei province, are busy picking apples in orchards on 2,000 hectares.
Located in the Taihang Mountains, Houjiazhuang township is covered with apple trees whose red fruit hangs on branches like small lanterns.
Yang Zenglin, a grower in one village in the town — which is well-known for apples of high quality — said the fruit this year is better than ever and can be sold at a high price.
He has planted more than 1,000 apple trees, as well as chestnut, pear and peach trees.
Over the past five years, his orchard has yielded about 75,000 kilograms of fruit each year, generating an annual income of more than 300,000 yuan ($41,250), he said.
