Handan is abundant in resources and complete in the range of industries, known as a "Steel Capital", a "Coal Capital", a "North China Granary" and "Southern Hebei Sea of Cotton". It is an old industrial base for national key projects and an area well-known for producing coking and thermal coal and high-grade iron ore in the country. It owns 36 of the 41 major categories of industries in the country, with the industrial aggregate ranking second in Hebei Province for years running.
