After four hours, Guo Dongming had 290 ml blood drawn on August 10, 2021 at the No. 2 Hospital of the Hebei Medical University, becoming the China Marrow Donar Program’s 11,776th, Hebei Province’s 537th and Shijiazhuang city’s 145th voluntary bone marrow donor.
Guo was born in 2000 in the East China city of Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province. He graduated from the Shijiazhuang Senior Medical School in June 2021.When he was at school, he developed an ardent love of public good affairs. When reaching the full age of 18, he began to join the blood donation activities together with his friends. After he learned about bone marrow and stem cells, an idea of donating to the China Marrow Donar Program dawned on him. In 2019, he registered for depositing his blood sample in the bank, thus becoming a voluntary bone marrow donor.
In April 2021, Guo received a call when he just completed the internship, ready to go home in Jiangsu. The call told him that his bone marrow was successfully matched with that of a blood patient and asked him whether he agreed to donate. Without a thought, he promised. He began to pay more attention to his living habits, strengthen physical training. He passed the physical checkup and the High-definition testing.
He said that he was very much pleased to learn that it had taken only two years to have his bone marrow matched, because it would have taken dozens of years to get it matched.
Now he was pleased to have had the rare life-long opportunity to save a patient.
"I hope that the blood patient would be recovering at an early date, and I am also looking forward to seeing more and more people, especially youngsters, register with the China Marrow Donar Program to bring hope to other patients,"he said.
