The village is now managing more than 40 hectares of facility vegetables, capable of supplying more than 15,000 kilograms to Beijing, Tianjin and other nearby places.

"Our planting techniques have improved in recent years and my cucumber is growing awesomely well and each greenhouse may yield more than 500 kilograms," said Zhang Zhimei, a vegetable farmer of the village, adding that she has planted vegetables for two years and the guidance by agrotechnicians has enabled the output to rise year after year.

This is but one example of a modern agriculture system developed by the Yanshan County, which features refined production of greenhouse vegetables and agro-tourism. It has designated an area for developing facility vegetables and encouraged each village to develop its own specialty product or its own brand of agro-tourism. This has not only enriched the "vegetable basket" of its customers but also fattened the purses of vegetable farmers and injected renewed vigor into the program of reinvigorating the countryside.
