US, Russia seek creative Syrian solution
The UN-Arab League envoy to Syria has said Russia and the United States will seek a creative solution to the Syrian crisis. But Lakhdar Brahimi sought to dampen too high expectations.
Lakhdar Brahimi, said, "We haven’t taken any sensational decisions, but I think we have agreed that the situation is bad, and we have agreed that we must continue to work together to see how we can find creative ways of bringing this problem under control and hopefully starting to solve it."
Brahimi was speaking after holding talks with US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, and Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, in Dublin. Russia and the US have been massively divided over how to address the Syrian conflict.
Washington has criticised Moscow for shielding its Arab ally, while Russia has accused the US of meddling by demanding the downfall of President Bashar Assad’s government. But the gathering of the three key international figures suggests a possible compromise may be possible.
